Well I did take in another ferret. Esmee is a young cinnamon female biter with a tramatic past. She's still very afraid of people. Not going up for adoption until I can work with her more to get her in a better place.

Sorry for no updates but not much has been happening. I'm still placing ferrets, but taking a less active role, as it has become quite expensive run the shelter. Right now I'm taking names of people interested in adopting and then when someone needs to give up a ferret, I give them the names of the people looking to adopt. So far so good.

Upsetting news as my cat Jesse died today while getting his teeth cleaned at the vet. He had a bad reaction to one of the medications and had a seizure and suddenly passed. I will miss my Couch Slug greatly.
12-10-07
Angel passed away today. She had cancer, adrenal and insolinoma. I will miss my mousey! She was my 2nd ferret ever. She's cleaning someone's ears in heaven now.

Charlie is a new resident. He came in with a bad tooth, and after getting it removed, he is a much happier ferret. He now is in total LOVE with another permanent rez- Lilly. They are a really nice match.

Jack has been adopted! The little baby albino boy found wandering locally has been adopted by a very nice family from Albuquerque. We wish them all the best! I'll see if I can't get some pictures sent of him once he has a chance to settle in a bit.

Well after a L-O-N-G drive there and back we have success! The little guy is back safe and sound. Here is a picture of him eating like a champ. He's a sweet guy and I'm very happy that he has found a permanent home with me. Oh and many thanks to my friend Jamie for driving all that way with me to do this- even though ferrets aren't really her thing. She did this on one of her few days home on vacation just because she's a nice person. And I begged her unrelentingly for months.

I'm adopting Pooh today! I'm driving to Utah to adopt a disabled ferret in a shelter there. I've been trying to get him for awhile, and today is the day. Its a 8 hour drive one way. I'll post more when I get back. But the little guy's name is Pooh, he is 3 years old and cannot use his back legs due to a tramatic spinal injury when he was a baby (he was caught in a recliner). I already have a cart for him and a special cage. I'm looking forward to getting to know this extra- special guy!

Well, I finally decided to get another dog. Another corgi mix (Nip was half corgi) and of course from the pound. La Plata Humane Society (http://www.lpchumanesociety.org/) had a young Chocolate Lab, Welsh Corgi Female for adoption today who I decided would make a good companion for me and fit nicely into my home. Her name is Sadie.

Today my 13 year old dog Nip passed away. I've had her since I was nine, she was my loyal friend and constant companion.
REMEMBER ME
Remember me always, but do not grieve for me too long. I have tried always to comfort you in times of sorrow, and have made every effort to add joy to your life. I never wanted to cause you pain.
Peace for me is certain now, and I suspect I will have eternal sleep in the Earth I have loved so well.
Please, after your period of grieving for me, make room in your heart for another. You are the kind of human being that should always have a friend like me to love. Your kind and gentle heart should not be wasted on my memory too long. Give your love to another. I know your new friend will never take my place, because we had something very special.
It may not be quite the same, but a new devoted and loving companion will in time, become special in their own way.
You loved me very much and I loved you. My spirit will always be with you, and no matter how deep my sleep, my grateful heart will always remember you.

The ferrets just keep on coming! We have a 6 week old albino baby boy here, who was found wandering in someone's yard. If no one claims him he will be up for adoption in about a week.
10-10-06
Two new boys today as well. Mozart and Shakespear. Shakespear has the beginnings of adrenal disease so I will probably add these boys to our 'permanent resident' room. They both seem to be in good spirits however.

Ok, so I back-dated a bit. I moved! Still working on finding my camera's cord. But in ferret-related news: we have two new girls! "The Southern Belles" - Mugsy and Gizmo. Both very sweet girls, they came from a terrific and very loving home, their owner moved and was no longer able to keep them to do lifestyle changes. Mugsy is deaf, and nips occasionally. But other than that quirk they are both very nice ferrets. I'll post pictures soon!
9-14-06
Buster has been adopted! Aww, my little Buster has been re-homed. His former family fell upon hard times and was no longer able to keep him. His new family is Michelle, and her ferrets!
9-12-06
Well in about a week we here at Four Corners Ferret Rescue will be moving to a BRAND NEW location! Don't worry folks, we are still taking in and adopting out ferrets, and will be in the future. Our phone, email and webpage will stay the same. And we are staying in town, just changing locations. We will be posting pictures soon! But for now, check out our happy ferrets splashing in the "treat trough"

Two Adoptions today to different people! First we have Weezie going to Michelle (she's a frequent weasel shopper here!) Weezie was found roaming on the airforce base in Alamagordo, and through some kind-hearted ferret people we managed a caravan up to Aztec.
Then we have Splinter (and no I didn't name him) going to Carmen.
I'm sure they will both be happy in there new homes!
7-20-06
Sable has been adopted. Coincidentally, by Michelle's niece. What a big happy ferret family!
7-16-06
Socks has been adopted! She has been adopted by Michelle, who adopted Patches. I'm sure they will have a great time together!
7-9-06
Patches has gone to a new home today! I have had Patches for awhile and have grown very attached to her, but as she has no behavior or health issues, I decided it would be best to place her in a home, so I could have more room in the shelter for ferrets who might be in need.
7-7-06
A few long-time residents find a home! Apollo, B.J. and Brownie all went to a new home in Cortez today! I'm very excited for them! They will have free-run of the home with many other ferrets, and can cause trouble to the ferretty heart's content. We will miss their antics!

We had an Emergency drop off Tuesday night. "Marshmellow" was found in an Abandoned house, no one knows how long he had been there. He had a HUGE abcess on his head and neck area, roughly the size of an orange. His left eye and ear were swollen shut from it. I rushed him to the vet that night for an emergency evaluation. He had surgery the next day. I didn't get any pictures of the abcess (I wasn't even sure if he would survive, I had other priorities). But here is a picture
of him the day after.
Today (friday) he is going back to the vet to get the drain out and get the wound cleaned again. Poor little guy!! I'll be posting pictures of his progress.
This is Friday 2 days after the surgery. He's looking better isn't he? Of course you can't see his neck in the picture, its still a mess.

Chaser has been re-homed! Due to issues with his landlord, his previous owner (who is a really nice guy, and a great ferret owner) was no longer able to keep him. The Valdez family adopted Chaser on Friday! Here are the pictures....

We have a new Permanent Resident! Meet Morgan- a new biter. She really is sweet, under that nippyness. She has been in 6 homes already, that is why we don't want to adopt her out and stress her with any unnessacary changes.

Check us out as the "Featured Shelter" in the fall issue of New Mexico's P e t r o g l y p h s
Publication. Yeah!
And yes, Robbie is mentioned. Like he would allow it to be published without it having his name in it. He thinks he is famous now. His vanity is insufferable to live with.

Ed and Hazel have found a wonderful new home! Pictures coming as soon as I find the charger for my camera! (Ha! Found it!!)

Message from Robbie J. Weasel here. We have gotten an extremely generous offer from Erin at "Charming Designs" to donate 30% of designated sales to us! Big news! That means you humans need to go to the website and start buying so we can get more hammocks and more importantly, more treats and toys for me! So Buy Buy Buy, Buy early and Buy often! Buy for yourself and Buy for your friends! Buy for your enemies! Stock up! Christmas is coming! It would make a smashing ferret collar by the way. So the message here is get buying so I can start raking in the goods, its mine, all mine I tell you! Mom just *thinks* she controls the cash flow, but its all me behind the scenes, I pull the strings!
.....Ok- its Heather again, I think that's about enough from Robbie, I believe the role of alpha ferret has gone to his head. He seems a bit power crazed. But he's right about the generousity of Charming Designs how you can help. See our LINKS page for more information and pictures!!

Sad news today as Jinxy Chantal passed on. Last friday she was diagnosed with a terminal liver condition. We were still waiting on the results of her blood test, but today it was obvious she was suffering and not herself and so I decided to give her the ultimate kindness and have her put to sleep. Rest In Peace Jinxy.

Sadly Besel, who belonged to Evan (the nice lady who adopted Rocky), and who I was taking care of this week, died today. Evan is just heart-broken and so am I. She was such a sweet girl, she will be deeply missed. But when Evan is feeling better, she will take both Rocky and Bullwinkle home, we just wish it was under happier circumstances.

Rocky has found a home!!
Say Hi to our two newest guys, that's Bullwinkle on the left and Rocky on the right. They were too old to sell so a local petstore gave them to me. Check out our adoption page to learn more.
"Bugsy" was dropped off at night at a local petstore, taped up in a box. Bugsy have a few behavior problems, such as nipping at hands- so we are working on that. He's a real talker, alwasy dooking about something all the time. Fortunately he's been really good for Bezil, encouraging him to play and be more active and vocal.

In July "Bezil" was dropped off at my door. I got a call from a lady who said her niece had left him out her house and not come back. He is old, around 4 or 5 years, and is suffering the results of long-term neglect. He can't be introduced to my large group of ferrets, as he has no social skills and generally just gets beaten-up. He has a nice 4 story cage in my room now, where he gets lots of attention and care. Luckily he gets along well with "Bugsy", the newest rescue. He can't really run, he just kind of hops along, and he is just starting to make vocalizations. Currently he needs to have his teeth cleaned, as he can't eat hard food right now, I have to make him a soft mix to get him to eat.
Wally was given to me by a local petstore due to behavioral concerns. He was successfully integrated with my larger group and now is very happy playing with them in the weasel-room. He still nips when excited, but is getting better. A very animated guy.
