Rainbow Bridge
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over... together.

I have sent you on a journey to a land free from pain,
not because I did not love you, but because I loved you
too much to force you to stay.
We've known this day would come, we knew it from the start.
And now we sit together, me with a heavy heart.
I know it is time, to release you from your pain.
There's nothing left to do, nothing left to gain.
As I look into your eyes, I feel the pain I see.
I know you have been holding on, just because of me.
You are my best friend, and I don't want to let you go
But loving you as I do, I can't let you suffer so.
So as I hold you here, I just wanted to let you know
Today I loved you most of all, Today I let you go.

God looked around His garden
And found an empty space,
He then looked upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you
To give you needed rest,
Knowing that His garden
Is where you'd do the best.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that through His endless love,
Your faith He could sustain.
He saw the road was rough,
The hills so hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered,
Peace be Thine.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you do not go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul's at rest
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts,
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife.
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.

My Most Beloved
Bezil
8/14/06
For Bezil
Oh Lord, as I cried into the night-
You gave me an answer, you gave me a light.
And lo the angels rejoiced; and lo my heart was at peace,
And Love had a name (and with it too fur),
And I called my precious boy simply, Bezil.
But the day came too soon that my light went away,
Away to the heavens, away to my dismay.
And lo my heart was sad, and lo I wept many tears.
For the love of my life was gone
(and with him too part of me),
The one I had called my beloved Bezil.
But someday my light shall also be dimmed too,
Together we shall be, together me and you.
We will be as one in the sky, together like before-
When we are joined in heaven, (united for all time).
What a joyous day, for my animals and me!
Together for all time-
Just God, and Me, and Thee.
-HeatherN Stotz
So this is where we part, My friend,
and you'll run on, around the bend,
gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.
I will go on, I'll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.
There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you've taught.
Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this...I loved you best.
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
May I go now?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say good bye to pain filled days
and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first,
I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and living light.
I want to go I really do.
It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid,
because I see your tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that,
and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you
wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me.
You know I love you too,
that's why it's hard to say good bye
and end this life with you.
So hold me now just one more time
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you'll let me go today.
There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.
- Washington Irving
They say memories are golden
well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway,
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

Please don't forget me when I'm gone-
The good times aren't all past.
Treasure all the joys we shared-
Those memories will last.
And don't forget the hard times, too.
The struggles that we had.
The times when we grew closer still-
those memories aren't all bad!
But most of all remember me,
And the great love that we shared.
So don't forget me when I'm gone-
And always know, I cared
No pain, no grief, no anxious fear
can reach our loved one sleeping here.

Rest In Peace
10-18-06
Now we lay you down to sleep
You're finally at rest
Our love for you we'll always keep
You were the very best
You gave us joy for thirteen years
A memory for each new day
Then came the day of all my fears
The day you passed away
And part of us you took with you
And I can't stand the pain
But when this life on earth is through
I know we'll meet again.
Sorrow fills a barren space,
you close your eyes and see my face.
I think of times I made you laugh,
the love we shared, the bond we had.
The special way I needed you,
the friendship shared by just we two.
The day's too quiet, the world seems older,
the wind blows now a little colder.
You gaze into the empty air,
and look for me, but I'm not there.
I'm in heaven and I watch you,
and I see the world around you too.
I see little souls wearing fur,
souls who bark and souls who purr.
Born unwanted and unloved,
I see all this and more above.
I watch them suffer, I see them cry,
I see them lost, I watch them die.
I see unwanted thousands born,
and when they die, nobody mourns.
These little souls wearing fur,
Some who bark and some who purr.
are castaways who unlike me,
will never know love or security.
A few short months they starve and roam,
or caged in shelters nobody takes home.
My pain and suffering came to an end,
so don't cry for me, my person, my friend.
But think of the living, those souls with fur,
some who bark and some who purr.
And though our bond can't be broken apart,
make room for another in your home and heart.

Called Home too Soon

What do you do when a good friend dies?
Do you lash out in anger and curse at the sky?
Or grasp hard denial, the means of the weak.
In an effort to kindle the comfort you seek.
What do you do when a good friend dies?
Once life's breath, so precious, gives the chest final rise.
In haste you take the blame, no other at fault,
You kneel upturned earth and deem all happiness to hault.
What do you do when a good friend dies?
When with her the times, both good and bad, lie.
Do you cast aside the past, for memories hurt much to much,
Or struggle and fight for the last lingering touch.
What do you do when a good friend dies?
When all of the tears have all but been cried.
No matter how much you try,
The only thing to do is say farewell,
Goodbye.
Don't cry Mommie
You did what you had to do
Although my body's lifeless
I'm still here with you.
You'll never know how much it meant
With my last breath I took
To feel your touch and loving arms
And see your loving look.
I'm happy now- no more pain
I'm young and filled with joy.
And I will keep a loving watch
Over all your tears and joys.
I'll wait for you and walk with you
Until it comes your time
When God decides to bring you home
To me for all Eternal time.

He fought the good fight
From the silence of your pain I heard my name
and on the wings of light I have come
to see the sadness in your eyes
that cry without tears
Can you see me, I am here
I will always be near you
to calm your shattered heart
and to make you smile at the memories
Do you feel me, perhaps a soft brush of fur
You ache to believe it's real
but you are afraid to hope
You brush away a strand of hair
But it was I, whispering.....
I am only here for but a moment
The silver thread gently quivers
I will leave behind my love in a dream
When you awaken, and without really knowing why
Your heart will know at last
That it is all right, for now
to say good-bye

My Mouse
We thought of you with love today.
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake.
With which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.

My Grief is Like a River
My grief is like a river-
I have to let it flow,
But I myself determine
Just where the banks will go.
Some days the current takes me
In waves of guilt and pain
But there are always quiet pools
Where I can rest again.
I crash on rocks of anger-
My faith seems faith indeed,
But there are other swimmers
Who know that what I need
Are loving hands to hold me
When the waters are too swift,
And someone kind to listen
When I just seem to drift.
Grief's river is a process
Of relinquishing the past.
By swimming in hope's channels
I'll reach the shore at last.

Jesse
My Couch Slug
We wish we could have told you,
in words you'd understand,
We wanted you to stay with us.
This wasn't what we'd planned.
We wish somehow to tell you,
How empty we now feel.
A part of us went with you,
A part that time can't heal.
We wish we'd once more hear you,
in your softly, rumbling purr,
to hold you on our laps again
and stroke your golden fur.
We wish we had you back again,
to fill this empty space.
But one day we'll be together
in a far, far better place.
When tomorrow starts without me,
And I am not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes,
All filled with tears for me,
I wish so much you wouldn't cry,
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say,
I know how much you loved me,
As much as I loved you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me to,
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind,
All those I dearly love,
But as I turned and walked away,
A tear fell from my eye,
For all my life I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die,
I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you,
I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had,
If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you,
And maybe see you smile,
But then I finally realize,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me,
And when I thought of all the worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow,
But when I walked through Heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home,
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,
He said, “This is eternity, And all I've promised you,
Today your life on earth is past,
But here life starts anew”.
I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same day,
There's no longing for the past.
But you have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things,
You knew you shouldn't do.
But you have been forgiven and now at last you're free.
So won't you take my hand and share my life with me?
So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart,
for every time you think of me, I'm right here, inside your heart.

(***)Coping with Sorrow on the Loss of Your Pet by Moira K. Anderson
Author of seven books, Moira Allen is also an accomplished article writer and columnist. During her long career, she has held a variety of writing-related positions, including a past editor of Dog Fancy Magazine.
Her book, Coping With Sorrow On The Loss Of Your Pet, has been in production for 20 years and has been embraced by humane societies, veterinary schools and pet cemeteries. This support comes with good reason...
Coping With Sorrow On The Loss Of Your Pet is an exceptionally well planned and thoroughly researched, 182-page non-fiction self-help book. Moira displays excellent organizations skills and clearly shows a compassion and dedication to the concept of preparedness for the death of a loved one.
This 13-chapter book opens with some lovely poems that, frankly, meant so much more to me after I finished the book and returned to read them once more. The author covers every aspect of losing a pet and closes with a lovely write-up about her life as a writer.
Moira also discusses aspects of dealing with the death on an emotional level. For instance, each member of the family, even those of the four-legged variety, will grieve differently according to the relationship they had with the deceased. The ways we all will be able to show our emotions will vary just as much and I think it is helpful for pet-owners to be aware of these differences in order to avoid misunderstandings. The author also shows us some social barriers, such as people who cannot comprehend the grief over the loss of an animal, and she shows us how to deal with this hurtful event.
(***)Will I See Fido in Heaven?: Scripturally Revealing God's Eternal Plan for His Lesser Creatures by Mary Buddemeyer-Porter (+I have Read Personally and Highly Recommend)
"Will I See Fido in Heaven?" is a 123-page concise, Christian book that reveals the eternal life of all animals and God's love for all Creation. It is based upon more than 150 Biblical Scriptures and shows the difference between the innocence of animals and sinful nature of man. "Will I See Fido in Heaven?" is a book that will comfort and enlighten every animal lover. It is full of wonderful true-life animal stories that reveal the wisdom, feelings, and reasoning abilities of many of God's lesser creatures. It is a book that spurs people to share their joy when they realize their deceased four-legged friends will pass on to Heaven. It has become a favorite gift for many Christians to give to their pet-loving friends.
(***)There is Eternal Life for Animals by Shanahan, Niki Behrikis
Based on Bible Scripture, There Is Eternal Life For Animals presents Animal Afterlife from a Christian Perspective. All animals go to heaven. How do we know? We look in the book that God left us, the Bible. This book takes you through the Bible and proves through the scriptures that there is life after death for all the animals. It covers: -- God's relationship with the animals; -- The current life of the animal kingdom; -- The future life of the animals and its restoration; -- What animals are currently in heaven; -- Whether animals have souls and spirits; -- Praying for animals. There Is Eternal Life For Animals includes numerous Bible scriptures, opinions and commentaries from Bible Theologians, visions, stories, near-death experiences of children, and personal experiences. It also reviews many of the original Greek and Hebrew words and their translations.
(***)How to Roar: Pet Loss Grief Recovery by Robin Jean Brown
What helped me about this book were two things, which I'll mention first, and then explain. Those two things are:
1. The workbook questions.
2. The unique, balanced tone of this book.
Now I'll explain:
The workbook questions - This is a highly interactive book. You don't just read it passively. At first I thought the questions would hurt too much to do (one of the questions has you write the story of how you came to choose your pet above all others), but as I wrote out my answers to them, I felt better. I also felt happy as so many wonderful memories of my dog flooded back to me through the tears.
The unique, balanced tone - The other books I read seemed either too uncaring or -- at the opposite extreme -- too sad. Instead "How to ROAR" is written by a highly empathetic author who also helps you to work through the grief and get to "acceptance" stage (and beyond) at the other side.
In conclusion, if you've lost your pet (or know someone who has), get Robin Jean Brown's book. It will help to work through the pain and heartache.

Lend Me a Ferret
I will lend to you for a while
a ferret, God said.
For you to love while she lives,
and mourn when she's dead.
Maybe for eight or ten years,
or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call her back,
take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you
and should her stay be brief,
you'll always have her memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below
I want this ferret to learn.
I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowds life's land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give her all your love,
nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take
my ferret home again?
And my heart replied,
"My Lord, Thy Will Be Done."
For all the joys this ferret brings,
the risk of grief I'll run.
I'll shelter her with tenderness,
I'll love her while I may.
And for the happiness that I've known,
forever grateful stay.
But should you call her back
much sooner than I planned,
I'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.
If by my love I've managed
your wishes to achieve,
in memory of her sweet sweet love,
please help me while I grieve.
When my cherished ferret
departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul
for me to love all her life.
REMEMBER ME
Remember me always, but do not grieve for me too long. I have tried always to comfort you in times of sorrow, and have made every effort to add joy to your life. I never wanted to cause you pain.
Peace for me is certain now, and I suspect I will have eternal sleep in the Earth I have loved so well.
Please, after your period of grieving for me, make room in your heart for another. You are the kind of human being that should always have a friend like me to love. Your kind and gentle heart should not be wasted on my memory too long. Give your love to another. I know your new friend will never take my place, because we had something very special.
It may not be quite the same, but a new devoted and loving companion will in time, become special in their own way.
You loved me very much and I loved you. My spirit will always be with you, and no matter how deep my sleep, my grateful heart will always remember you.
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying. You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today. Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
And say "Good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out... then come home to be with me.
High up in the courts of heaven today
A little dog angel waits;
With the other angels he will not play,
But he sits alone at the gates.
“For I know my master will come” says he,
“And when he comes he will call for me.”
The other angels pass him by
As they hurry toward the throne,
And he watches them with a wistful eye
As he sits at the gates alone.
“But I know if I just wait patiently
That someday my master will call for me.”
And his master, down on earth below,
As he sits in his easy chair,
Forgets sometimes, and whispers low
To the dog who is not there.
And the little dog angel cocks his ears
And dreams that his master's voice he hears.
And when at last his master waits
Outside in the dark and cold,
For the hand of death to open the door,
That leads to those courts of gold,
He will hear a sound through the gathering dark,
A little dog angel's bark.
Friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!
I was chosen today
I'm learning to fly
the world took me away,
but please don't you cry
And I chose you today
to try and be strong
so please don't you cry
and don't say that I'm gone
When you're feeling alone
just remember our love,
I'm up near the stars
looking down from above.
Remember our love
In a moment you'll see
that I'm still here beside you
when you're thinking of me.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die...
Look not where I was
For I am not there
My spirit is free
I am everywhere
In the air that you breathe
In the sounds that you hear
Don't cry for me Mom
My spirit is near
I'll watch for you
From the other side
I'll be the one running
New friends by my side
Smile at my memory
Remember in your heart
This isn't the end
It's a brand new start
The heart that is loved never forgets
No Heaven will ever *HEAVEN* be,
Unless my pets are there to welcome me.
The best and most beautiful things in the world can not be seen, nor touched, but are felt in the heart

Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon, and a horizon is nothing save the limits of our site

There's many things in life I hoped
That one day I would see,
Something on a grander scale
Than what surrounded me.
I dreamt of fields with golden flowers,
Of shining stars and midnight hours,
Of castles and knights and other places,
Filled with beauty and smiling faces,
Of gentle breezes and butterflies,
Of silvery eagles and big blue skies.
But of all the things in this world
That I wish and hope to see,
It's the memory of what once was
What was here next to me.
If only I had stopped a moment
To gaze down at my side,
I'd have seen that all the beauty
Was there within my baby's eyes
The tide recedes, but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun sets, but gentle warmth
still lingers on the land.
The music fades, but yet
it echoes on in sweet refrains.
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.
Scalding torrent acid tears scorch my tired eyes
Red rimmed, blood shot, and burning, turned up to the quiet sky
Black blood filled with hurt and anger courses through my veins
Fueled by a heart that's so familiar with such loss and pain
Searching the midnight sky for answers left by day
Happiness and comfort are strangers to my life's way
Wondering and wandering about a world that's so unkind
Waiting for foolish answers to the questions in my mind
Why This One? Why Her? There Are So Many Others To Take!
This One Is So Special, Who Dares Decide Her Fate?
Why Couldn't She Stay Longer To Easy My Troubled Life?
The Loss Of This One's Little Soul Cuts Deeper Than A Knife.
No One Else Is Good Enough To Keep Her Safe And Warm.
Who Else Could Be Trusted To Save Her From The Storm?
My Love For Her Is Stronger Than Any Other's Could Be.
Why Do I Have To Suffer? She Belongs Right Here With Me!
Thou reeling with the loss of one so vital to my days
I wear my scar so secretly and drift through life's great maze
Passing minutes turn to hours to mark my time alone
Then lightening streaks across the room to touch my heart of stone
The answers come so violently like a hammer to my chest
Me, who had the nerve to think that I would know what's best
The sky opened up it's eyes with a great torrent of rain
The silent voice wrapped in thunder said “I KNOW YOUR PAIN”
“I ASKED THOSE QUESTIONS TOO, BEFORE I SENT HER SOUL TO YOU”
Grieving Time, a Time for Love
If a loved one has departed,
And left an empty space,
Seek the inner stillness,
Set a slower pace.
Take time to remember,
Allow yourself to cry,
Acknowledge your emotions,
Let sadness pass on by.
Then center in the oneness,
Remember ... God is here,
Death is but a change in form,
Your loved one is still near.
Treat yourself with kindness,
Allow yourself to feel,
God will do the mending,
And time will help you heal.
-Barbara Bergen
Do not grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found that place at the close of day.
If my passing has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief,
don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with Me,
God wanted me now. He set me free.
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from the Bridge.
Here I dwell with God above.
Here there's no more tears of sadness.
Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again- you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on."
God gave me a list of things that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night - the day's chores put to flight,
God and I are closest to you... in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years,
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too;
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night... "My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented... that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along I made somebody smile.
God says: "If you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low;
Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street with me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind."
"And when it's time for you to go... from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going... you're coming here to me."
HE WHOM WE LOVE
AND LOSE
IS NO LONGER
WHERE HE WAS BEFORE.
HE IS NOW WHEREVER WE ARE
Just a dog, just a cat
Just an animal, lazy and fat
Just get over it, just get another
It's not like it's your son or mother
Fools around me speak in shame
Never knowing my pet's name
They roll their eyes, they dub me weak
They treat me like my loss is cheap
Had I lost my arm or lost my sight
Then my sorrow would be worthy and right
But I'd give my arm, my leg, and my home
To have her back and not be alone
My synthetic smile so wry and charming
Hides a growing outburst that's so alarming
I choke back words to defend my tears
Because they would fall only on deaf ears
It's sad that they have never shared
A love so pure and uncompared
Though my heart bleeds from a cut so deep
Their hearts stay cold in stagnant sleep
Just a cat, just a dog
Just a friend with whom to jog
Just someone standing by my side
When life brings on it's bumpy ride
Just a reason to hope and believe
That not every creature has something up it's sleeve
Just someone with whom to chat
My dog, my friend, my family, my cat

He left the world knowing he was loved.

If I had only known it was the last time we would talk,
I would have memorized everything you said.
If I had only known it was the last time I would see you,
I would have made you stay longer.
If I had only known it was the last time you would make me laugh,
I would have remembered what you said.
If I had only known it was the last time you would smile,
I would have made it last forever.
If I had only known what was going to happen to you,
I would have never left you.
If I had only known I would never see you,
I would have told you what you meant to me...
If I Had Only Known....
Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven's love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again
Fly, fly precious one
Your endless Journey has begun
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace all one word
But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
Until we meet.
Fly, fly do not fear
Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don't wait for me
Above the universe you'll climb
On beyond the hands of time
The moon will rise, the sun will set
But I won't forget
Fly, fly little wing
Fly, where only angels sing
Fly away, the time is right
Go now, find the light
THE FOURTH DAY by Martin Scot Kosins ....
If you ever love an animal, there are three days in your life you will always remember. The first is a day, blessed with happiness, when you bring home your young new friend. You may have spent weeks deciding on a breed. You may have asked numerous opinions of many vets, or done long research in finding a breeder. Or, perhaps in a fleeting moment, you may have just chosen that silly looking mutt in a shelter - simply because something in its eyes reached your heart. But when you bring that chosen pet home, and watch it explore, and claim its special place in your hall or front room - and when you feel it brush against you for the first time - it instills a feeling of pure love you will carry with you through the many years to come.
The second day will occur eight or nine or ten years later. It will be a day like any other. Routine and unexceptional. But, for a surprising instant, you will look at your long-time friend and see age where you once saw youth. You will see slow deliberate steps where you once saw energy. And you will see sleep where you once saw activity. So you will begin to adjust your friend's diet - and you may add a pill or two to her food. And you may feel a growing fear deep within yourself, which bodes of a coming emptiness. And you will feel this uneasy feeling, on and off, until the third day finally arrives.
And on this day - if your friend and God have not decided for you, then you will be faced with making a decision of your own - on behalf of your lifelong friend, and with the guidance of your own deepest Spirit. But whichever way, your friend eventually leaves you - you will feel as alone as a single star in the dark night sky. If you are wise, you will let the tears flow as freely and as often as they must. And if you are typical, you will find that not many in your circle of family or human friends will be able to understand your grief, or comfort you. But if you are true to the love of the pet you cherished through the many joy-filled years, you may find that a soul - a bit smaller in size than your own - seems to walk with you, at times, during the lonely days to come. And at moments when you least expect anything out of the ordinary to happen, you may feel something brush against your leg - very, very lightly. And looking down at the place where your dear, perhaps dearest, friend used to lie - you will remember those three significant days. The memory will most likely be painful, and leave an ache in your heart - As time passes the ache will come and go as if it has a life of its own. You will both reject it and embrace it, and it may confuse you. If you reject it, it will depress you. If you embrace it, it will deepen you. Either way, it will still be an ache.
But there will be, I assure you, a fourth day when along with the memory of your pet - and piercing through the heaviness in your heart - there will come a realization that belongs only to you. It will be as unique and strong as our relationship with each animal we have loved and lost. This realization takes the form of a living love. Like the heavenly scent of a rose that remains after the petals have wilted, this love will remain and grow - and be there for us to remember. It is a love we have earned. It is the legacy our pets leave us when they go. And it is a gift we may keep with us as long as we live. It is a love which is ours alone - and until we ourselves leave, perhaps to join our beloved pets - it is a love that we will always possess.
Farewell Master, but not farewell
Where I go, ye too, shall dwell.
I am gone, before your face.
A moment's time, a little space.
When ye come where I have stepped,
Ye will wonder why ye wept.
When I must leave you for a little while
Please do not grieve and shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you through the years
But start out bravely with a gallant smile;
And for my sake and in my name live on and do all things the same,
Feed not your loneliness on empty days,
But fill each waking hour in useful ways,
Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer
And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near;
And never, never be afraid to die,
For I am waiting for you in the sky!
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little- but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love we once shared,
Miss me- but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must
Take and each must go alone.
It's all part of the Master's plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to the friends we know. And bury your
sorrows In doing good deeds,
Miss Me- but let me go
To believe is to know that every day is a new beginning.
It is to trust that miracles happen, and dreams really do come true.
To believe is to see angels dancing among the clouds, to know the wonder of a stardust sky, and the wisdom of the man in the moon.
To believe is to know the value of a nurturing heart, the innocence of a child's eyes, and the beauty of an aging hand, for it is through their teachings we learn to love.
To believe is to find the strength and courage that lies within us when it is time to pick up the pieces and begin again.
To believe is to know we are not alone, that life is a gift and this is our time to cherish it.
To believe is to know that wonderful surprises are just waiting to happen, and all our hopes and dreams are within reach, if only we believe.
When you bring a pet into your life, you begin a journey - a journey that will bring you more love and devotion than you have ever known, yet also test your strength and courage. If you allow, the journey will teach you many things, about life, about yourself, and most of all, about love. You will come away changed forever, for one soul cannot touch another without leaving its mark. Along the way, you will learn much about savoring life's simple pleasures - jumping in leaves, snoozing in the sun, the joys of puddles, and even the satisfaction of a good scratch behind the ears. If you spend much time outside, you will be taught how to truly experience every element, for no rock, leaf, or log will go unexamined, no rustling bush will be overlooked, and even the very air will be inhaled, pondered, and noted as being full of valuable information. Your pace may be slower - except when heading home to the food dish - but you will become a better naturalist, having been taught by an expert in the field.
Too many times we hike on automatic pilot, our goal being to complete the trail rather than enjoy the journey. We miss the details - the colorful mushrooms on the rotting log, the honeycomb in the old maple snag, the hawk feather caught on a twig. Once we walk as a dog does, we discover a whole new world. We stop; we browse the landscape, we kick over leaves, peek in tree holes, look up, down, all around. And we learn what any dog knows: that nature has created a marvelously complex world that is full of surprises, that each cycle of the seasons bring ever changing wonders, each day an essence all its own. Even from indoors you will find yourself more attuned to the world around you. You will find yourself watching summer insects collecting on a screen. (How bizarre they are! How many kinds there are!), or noting the flick and flash of fireflies through the dark. You will stop to observe the swirling dance of windblown leaves, or sniff the air after a rain. It does not matter that there is no objective in this; the point is in the doing, in not letting life's most important details slip by.
You will find yourself doing silly things that your pet-less friends might not understand: spending thirty minutes in the grocery aisle looking for the cat food brand your feline must have, buying dog birthday treats, or driving around the block an extra time because your pet enjoys the ride. You will roll in the snow, wrestle with chewie toys, bounce little rubber balls till your eyes cross, and even run around the house trailing your bathrobe tie - with a cat in hot pursuit - all in the name of love. Your house will become muddier and hairier. You will wear less dark clothing and buy more lint rollers. You may find dog biscuits in your pocket or purse, and feel the need to explain that an old plastic shopping bag adorns your living room rug because your cat loves the crinkly sound.
You will learn the true measure of love - the steadfast, undying kind that says, "It doesn't matter where we are or what we do, or how life treats us as long as we are together." Respect this always. It is the most precious gift any living soul can give another. You will not find it often among the human race. And you will learn humility. The look in my dog's eyes often made me feel ashamed. Such joy and love at my presence. She saw not some flawed human who could be cross and stubborn, moody or rude, but only her wonderful companion. Or maybe she saw those things and dismissed them as mere human foibles, not worth considering, and so chose to love me anyway. If you pay attention and learn well, when the journey is done, you will be not just a better person, but the person your pet always knew you to be - the one they were proud to call beloved friend.
I must caution you that this journey is not without pain. Like all paths of true love, the pain is part of loving. For as surely as the sun sets, one day your dear animal companion will follow a trail you cannot yet go down. And you will have to find the strength and love to let them go. A pet's time on earth is far too short - especially for those that love them. We borrow them, really, just for awhile, and during these brief years they are generous enough to give us all their love, every inch of their spirit
and heart, until one day there is nothing left. The cat that only yesterday was a kitten is all too soon old and frail and sleeping in the sun. The young pup of boundless energy wakes up stiff and lame, the muzzle now gray. Deep down we somehow always knew that this journey would end. We knew that if we gave our hearts they would be broken. But give them we must for it is all they ask in return. When the time comes, and the road curves ahead to a place we cannot see, we give one final gift and let them run on ahead - young and whole once more. "Godspeed, good friend," we say, until our
journey comes full circle and our paths cross again.
Now I lay me down to sleep,
In my blankie, snuggled deep,
One more yawn to end the day,
Tomorrow I will romp and play!
So God, if you could stay the night
To make sure I am covered tight,
Tomorrow there's so much to do
Before it's time to go with you...
My mommy taped up on the fridge
A poem about a special bridge...
I heard her cry again, tonight,
So maybe you could hold her tight
Until it's time for me to go,
(My people here still need me so)...
Oh, God, if only I could live!
I still have so much love to give...
For those that have had losses
Gods sky has another star shining tonight.
My little one has gone to light the night.
Take care of him Lord, he was so young.
A life so short after it had begun.
It's his first time away and I miss him so.
I didn't know you wanted him, it was hard to let go.
Such a tint being to help brighten your sky.
I know he's looking down and seeing me cry.
His spirit is at The Bridge waiting for me,
but his soul is shining with thee.
Yes I see now, many more stars flashing their light.
They tell me they've welcomed him and others into the night.
My heart is heavy and sad right now.
Though there are so many more here waiting for a home.
I'll take in another so it won't be alone.
They are unwanted by many, abused and abandoned. Perhaps you took him with
you to give
others a chance
That they might have reason to war dance.
My heart will heal, I have his memory you see,
and there is his light, burning with thee.
He moved over so another could be loved.
Thank you Lord for your heaven above.
Your sky is ever so bright with all the little souls that left earth
tonight.
A wonderful place, so near you
For each ...tiny light.
I do not sleep I do not wake;
I do not cry and I do not hate.
I merely exist never waking or sleep
I wait by your bed alone and weep
I'm sorry I let your life slip by
I'm sorry all our plans went awry
And I'm sorry I couldn't ease your pain
I try to think I did this for you
So you would be free and healthy too
But secretly I cry at night
And wonder if what I did was right
I'm sorry chaos for failing you
I'm sorry baby for what I put you through
I hope you're well and happy now
Though I do not understand why or how
But I hope you are with Jesus today
And will wait for me in heaven Kay

Imagine I could still feel your warm furry weight
Sleeping on my chest, making me appreciate.
Imagine the soft joy snuggled under my chin.
Watching you twitch in your dream, with a fuzzy grin.
Imagine I can see that wild and crazy dance.
Hearing your ferret laughter, he he he, perchance.
Imagine I can see your lithe form speeding through.
Chasing your friends around, and over, the tube too.
Imagine I spy a fleeting, nimble shadow,
Of a slinky shape in moonlight by the window.
Imagine you were still here sitting by my side.
Washing your fuzzy face, mouth yawning, oh so wide.
Imagine that I can feel your cold wet nose touch.
Letting me know when to give you treats, love and such.
Imagine I can hear your chuckle brought to voice.
Making me laugh till I cry, I just have no choice.
Imagine I was once again able to share.
Your gentle fuzzy kisses extraordinaire.
Imagine this aching pain in my heart will end.
A hole filled with love, by my fuzzy angel friend.
Shine on Bezil.
