Four Corners Ferret Rescue was started by a myself, just an individual who loves ferrets. Wanting to adopt my first ferret from a rescue, as I have always gotten my animals from the animal shelters or various rescues, I discovered there was no ferret specific shelter within 3 hours of me. After finally getting Robbie (my first ferret), I wanted to know as much about ferrets as I could. So I went to the internet, and found many many sites dedicated to ferret welfare. Wanting to help out, I kept researching and eventually started mine own rescue. I now have twelve permanent ferrets in my home, and my adoptables vary week to week.

I have been doing ferret education in the public schools in this area for about a year. I bring usually two ferrets at a time, to educate children about the proper care of animals. I also am taking my ferrets to the local hospital mental health ward, to help the depression patients discover the joy of a ferret. It's almost impossible to be sad when you see a ferret hopping and dooking across the floor.

In 2004 I created a new web site and called it "Four Corners Ferret Rescue.com" We are getting a good response I am happy to say.

Today we continue our effort to find lost and abandoned ferrets homes and provide care and shelter for ferrets who cannot be adopted. We work with local pet stores, animal control, the Humane Society, and individuals to inform the public of proper ferret care and responsible pet ownership.

We are an all-volunteer, family operated service. We are available 24-hours for emergency rescues and information and never charge a fee for rescuing ferrets. To help offset our huge medical and housing expenses, we do charge an adoption fee for adopted ferrets which is $75 for single ferrets and $100 for bonded pairs.  (**NOTE** In some special cases this fee can be reduced)

We are very selective in the homes that our ferrets are adopted to. We have one of the most extensive procedures for adoption possible which includes pre-adoption visits and always includes a home inspection. We want to find the best homes possible for these guys... they have been through enough already.

We open our doors to anyone wishing to adopt or sponsor a ferret. If you would like more information about our rescue or if you are interested in adopting from us, please email:

Ten Commandments for Ferrets
 1.   My life is likely to last 5 to 8 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.
 2.   Give me time to understand what you want from me.
 3.   Show me your love.....it is crucial for my well being.
 4.   Remember that I am a small animal that can be hurt easily. Protect me from all that is brought around me.
 5.   Teach me with encouragement, not abuse.
 6.   Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I recognize your voice.
 7.   Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, friends, entertainment. I have only you.
 8.   Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could hurt you, but I choose not to use them.
 9.   Care for me when I get old. Remember, you too will grow old.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say "I can't bear to watch" or "Let it happen in my absence." I'm scared and everything is easier if you are with me.
